Project
In 2009 we started our first project up along the border near Mae Sot to deliver blankets and other supplies to around 100 Karen refugee children. Funds from our first HelpLive kick-off concert made that assistance possible.
We are also working on getting mosquito nets. Mosquito nets are the most effective tool in protecting people in Malarial regions from getting Malaria, which is the usual and unfortunate situation for displaced refugee children who are frequently kept along the remote border regions where Malaria is endemic. Since there is no cure for Malaria, prevention is crucial, as we learned when we heard that from the first group of Karen refugee children, around 20 of those kids contracted Malaria during the last year.
During this year, 2010, additional sources of assistance such as mosquito nets and food, started up for this first group of 100 Karen refugee children, so we began searching for other overlooked pockets of displaced children in need of help.
As we looked, we found another group of about 120 refugee kids who were lacking sufficient assistance. Our goal for this group is to raise around $1000 USD so that we can help prepare them for winter weather. They desperately need blankets and also mosquito nets. Winter is approaching fast, so we are urgently working to assemble the funds needed to get them mosquito nets, blankets, and food.
